I’m a primary school teacher currently studying a masters in Teacher Librarianship - who has worked with children aged 3–11 across a range of international curricula and reading programmes. Over the years, I’ve seen first-hand just how powerful the right book can be — not only in developing reading skills, but in shaping imagination, empathy, and how children make sense of the world around them.
One of the biggest challenges parents and educators face is navigating book choice. Different schools use different reading schemes and programmes and, while some children are ready for more complex ideas, the books that stretch them cognitively aren’t always emotionally or socially age-appropriate. Others are labelled as “advanced” but offer little depth, challenge, or representation.
I want to build book lists for families that are curated to bridge that gap.
Each list is designed to:
Support children at different stages of reading development
Respect age-appropriate themes while still offering intellectual challenge
Encourage rich vocabulary, strong narrative models, and deeper thinking
Expose children to diverse perspectives, experiences, and voices
As an educator, I see daily how high-quality literature feeds directly into children’s writing — from sentence structure and vocabulary to character voice, empathy, and viewpoint. Stories help children practise understanding perspectives beyond their own, something that feels more important than ever in today’s world.

Know your child's reading level? You can always use my Reading Level Conversion Chart to help you choose a book that's right for your child.
You’ll find carefully selected book recommendations organised by age and stage, with supporting information to help you choose confidently. You can browse all sections - a 10 year old child can still choose from books that are recommended for ages 6+.
Each title includes the genre and publisher rating, which is linked, should you want to explore further and read the book's blurb. There will be book reviews coming to the instagram page!
The links on this site are Amazon affiliate links for paperback and Kindle editions where possible; if you choose to purchase through them, it helps support the time and work that goes into curating and maintaining these lists — at no extra cost to you.
If a book is part of a series, I have grouped those books together. Sometimes, books in a series are not always the same recommended age rating - be mindful of this if you can't find it under the same age section.
Prefer to search by reading level or interest?
The searchable book list lets you filter books by age, genre, or reading scheme. Levels overlap — choose what feels right for your child. Select Filter views to organise the list by age, genre, or reading level.
